A DAY AT THE INTERNTIONAL BIRDING FESTIVAL (FIO*)

Have you ever seen the impressive flight of the Imperial Eagle? Believe it or not, I have just seen it, here in Monfragüe.

I’ve come to the International Birding Festival, located in Villarreal de San Carlos in the heart of the National Park of Monfragüe. This small village has been organizing this fair since 2005 and in this eighth edition we can say it’s the most important event for nature lovers all over Spain and one of the most important in Europe. It’s hope that during this weekend more than 20,000 tourists will come.

Yesterday, when it began, I listened to some presentations about the tourism industry. Today I have had an amazing day; I have been watching lots of birds in a guided tour, I’ve learning how to help injured animals and now I’m looking at the different stalls. It’s 7:00 p.m. and it’s closing time, enough for today; but remember tomorrow there are many more activities and experiences on offer.

The organization is brilliant, the activities are well prepared and the organizers have work hard, so definitely I will come back next year.

*FIO comes from the Spanish words ‘Feria Internacional the Ornitología’, that means International Birding Festival
