Is Extremadura an important destination for birding and tourism?
Last weekend, the International Fair of Ornithology (FIO) came back to Monfragüe. This event is dedicated to wildlife tourism and bird watching.
In its eighth edition the fair took place in Villarreal de San Carlos, the only village inside the Monfragüe National Park. This protected area is a very good place for many species of raptors, and they find an ideal home in the low rocky hills and the Mediterranean forest.
At the fair, we found several conferences about nature photography and birds. There were also workshops where children could make plaster casts and paper masks, and learn about the bird ringing. In the stands you could see all kinds of optical and photographic equipment, books and guides.
In my opinion, I think the fair was a success again. It improved the organization of the event, as well as the facilities and infrastructure. The fair visitors have been very pleased and I’m sure that next year will be a new success.
